University of Basel Biozentrum PhD Fellowships Program 2023/2024
The University of Basel’s Biozentrum PhD Fellowships Program is presently accepting applications. The program offers prestigious and highly coveted fellowships, and encourages young scientists from around the world who are talented, ambitious, and highly motivated to apply.
The Werner Siemens-Foundation and the University of Basel sponsor the fellowships to identify and support exceptionally talented graduate students in Life Sciences. Unlike other PhD programs that aim for a broad applicant pool, the Biozentrum PhD Fellowships are highly competitive and awarded to a maximum of ten exceptional candidates annually. Fellowship recipients receive a range of incentives, including the opportunity to rotate through research groups and other support that enhances their scientific expertise and career prospects.

Requirements and Eligibility Criteria for the University of Basel Biozentrum PhD Fellowships:
- Applicants must be international students
- You must hold or expect soon a university degree that qualifies you for a PhD program at the University of Basel (MSc and equivalent).
- In exceptional cases, outstanding students with a 4-year bachelor’s degree, typically from outside the Bologna system, are also eligible to apply. These will be able to complete a Master’s program on a fast-track at the University of Basel as part of their fellowship.
- In order to be eligible to receive the fellowship, candidates can neither be enrolled as a PhD student at the University of Basel nor have signed a PhD working contract at the University of Basel at the decision date of the respective fellowship call.
