Leiden University is delighted to announce the availability of the Leiden University Excellence Scholarship (LExS) for International Students for the upcoming academic session of 2023-2024. This prestigious scholarship, which is specifically designed for Master’s degree study programs, is now accepting applications from eligible candidates.

Applicants who have already completed a Master’s degree at Leiden University are not eligible for the scholarship, except in cases where a specific previous Master’s degree or work experience is required for the program of study, such as the LLM Advanced Studies programs. For such programs that mandate prior Master’s degree or work experience, applicants may still be considered for the scholarship.

The Leiden University Excellence Scholarship (LExS) is intended for exceptional students who are enrolling in a full-time Master’s degree program at Leiden University. However, it should be noted that this scholarship does not apply to the LLM (non-advanced) and MSc programs offered by Leiden Law School. Eligible candidates from other disciplines are encouraged to apply for the scholarship.

Requirements and Eligibility Criteria for the Leiden University Excellence Scholarship 2023:

• Applicants for all Master’s programme at Leiden University – with the exception of LLM (non-advanced) and MSc programmes at Leiden Law School.
• Non-EEA/non-EFTA nationals who are applying for a Master’s programme at Leiden University. See additional note for UK students below.
• Students of all nationalities applying for an LLM Advanced Studies programme, or the MSC in International Relations and Diplomacy.
• Students must have achieved excellent academic results in their previous study programme(s), which must be relevant to the Master’s programme for which they are applying.
• Eligible Programmes: The following faculties are eligible for the study scholarship: Archaeology, Humanities, Medicine/LUMC, Governance and Global Affairs, Law, Social and Behavioural Sciences, Science, African Studies Centre, International Institute for Asian Studies

Application Procedures for the Leiden University Excellence Scholarship 2023 (How to Apply):

To be considered for the Leiden University Excellence Scholarship (LExS), please follow these steps:

1. Apply online for admission to a Master’s program at Leiden University and pay the applicable application fee, if required.
2. In the scholarship section of your online application, indicate your intention to apply for a LExS.
3. Follow the instructions provided in your online application to upload your LExS motivation letter. The letter should be in PDF format, not exceeding 500 words, and should clearly explain why you are seeking consideration for the scholarship.
4. Ensure that you submit your online application, including the LExS application, before the designated LExS application deadline.

If you are applying for multiple study programs and wish to apply for a LExS for each, make it explicitly clear in each application and upload a separate LExS motivation letter for each program.
