WomEng GirlEng Technovation Camp 2023 for High School Girls

The WomEng GirlEng Technovation Camp 2023 for High School Girls is now accepting applications for 50 high-achieving high school girls in grades 9 to 11 who are interested in a career in STEM fields, including Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.

This is a 4 days intensive workshop that will provide hands-on learning experiences and help girls develop the mindset and skills of STEM professionals. During the camp, participants will gain insight from female engineering and technology students and professionals, receive coding instruction, participate in robotics workshops, and learn about emerging technologies. In accordance with COVID-19 guidelines, the camp will consist of 50 girls and will take place in March 2023.

The goal of the GirlEng Technovation Camp is to inspire girls to adopt the mindset and behavior of engineers. The objective is accomplished through a combination of personal growth, increased STEM awareness, and mentorship with female engineering students. A key component of the camp is the LaunchPad Activity, which is part of the #1MillionGirlsinSTEM global initiative and encourages girls to focus on problem-solving rather than simply choosing a career. Participants will also engage in research-based activities centered around topics like “Understanding Your Community and Your Role” and “Engineering Life: Coping with Pressures.” The workshops are designed to enhance cognitive and behavioral skills.

Eligibility for the WomEng GirlEng Technovation Camp 2023 for High School Girls:

Applicants must be Grade 9 to 11 high school girls currently studying mathematics (compulsory) and science (recommended).
Applicants must show a high interest in pursuing a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) career.
Applicants must be residing in Johannesburg or surrounding areas.
Applicants must be available for all four days of the workshop.
