University of Pretoria 2024 MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program
Applications are currently been accepted from interested candidates for the 2024 MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program at the University of Pretoria, South Africa. African Students can apply for the Fully Funded Mastercard Foundation Scholarship.
The MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program’s objective is to provide assistance to African youths faced with substantial socio-economic barriers, including refugees or internally displaced persons (IDPs) and persons with disabilities.
The University of Pretoria (UP) is partnering with Mastercard Foundation (MCF) to offer scholarships to deserving African students interested in studying at postgraduate levels.

Requirement and Eligibility Criteria for the MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program:
- Candidates should be citizens from Africa facing significant socio-economic challenges, including refugees, Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and individuals with disabilities seeking to pursue a higher education.
- Applicants should come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds and demonstrate financial neediness.
- Candidates should demonstrate leadership potential and ought to be involved in a giving back project e. in a community, at school, church etc
- Academic excellence is paramount and students have to maintain a high academic average at all times.
Postgraduate Study Programmes
- Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences
- Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences
- Faculty of Humanities for entry into the BPolSci (Political Studies or International Studies only)
- Honours and Masters degree applications will be accepted in the fields of Engineering (continuing students only).

Application Procedures for the MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program (How to Apply):
Applications to study at UP opens on 1st March and closes on the 30th August of the year proceeding the year of study. Students who are interested in studies at the University of Pretoria and wish to apply for The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program must follow the application process.
Step 1:
To begin the application process, download and complete the hard copy of the relevant application form provided below: undergraduate-application-2025.pdf or postgraduate-application-2025.pdf. Ensure that all required supporting documentation is included with your submission.

Step 3:
Post-submission, your application will undergo a review process. You will be notified of the outcome afterward. If you do not hear back from us, please assume your application was not successful.
Step 4:
Prior to admission into the Program, all eligible candidates will undergo an interview as part of the selection process.
