University of Newcastle Africa Excellence Scholarship 2023 For African Students
The University of Newcastle has introduced the Africa Excellence Scholarship program to entice exceptional students to enrol in their institution. This scholarship is based on merit and acknowledges candidates who possess a remarkable academic history, encouraging them to pursue excellence.
Students who have received an offer to study in a qualifying program at the University of Newcastle and are commencing their studies will be granted scholarships automatically. The scholarships are not limited by quotas.
The University of Newcastle, established in 1965, is a public educational institution located in Newcastle, Australia. According to the QS Ranking, it is ranked as the 197th top university in the world. In this article, we will focus on the Africa Excellence Scholarship, which is a partially funded scholarship offered by the University of Newcastle to international students pursuing Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees.

Requirements and Eligibility Criteria for the University of Newcastle Africa Excellence Scholarship 2023 For African Students:
- Hold a passport from one of the 54 countries of Africa.
- Be commencing study in an eligible undergraduate or postgraduate coursework degree program at the University (excluding ELICOS, Enabling, Non-Award, Higher Degrees by Research programs and programs delivered at offshore campuses).
- Be an International full-fee paying student.
- Be commencing in an eligible program at an Australian or Online campus as indicated in your Letter of Offer.
- Not be the beneficiary of a separate University scholarship unless prior approval for special dispensation has been obtained from the university.
- Meet all of the financial obligations of a full-fee paying international student, including the full tuition fee and other expenses for the purpose of obtaining your student visa, and in the event that eligibility for the scholarship is not maintained.
Scholarship Benefit for the University of Newcastle Africa Excellence Scholarship:
- You will be paid AU$1250 per 10 units of study.
- The scholarship is valued at AU$10,000 for each year of study under a standard full-time study load of 80 units.
- The payment will be applied directly to your student account for each term of study in your eligible program(s) as a tuition fee reduction.
- The amount applied is on a pro rata basis and will be adjusted according to approved reduced study load, credit exemptions, progression or enrolment above full-time study load.

Application Procedures for the University of Newcastle Africa Excellence Scholarship (How to Apply):
If students meet the eligibility criteria, they will automatically be considered for scholarships when applying to the university. Those who are successful will be informed of the scholarship value together with their Offer Letter and must review the complete terms and conditions before deciding whether or not to accept the scholarship.
Scholarship awards will be based on academic merit, with all assessments conducted according to the University’s guidelines for determining ATAR and GPA. However, the following quota programs are not eligible for this scholarship: Bachelor of Medical Radiation Science (Honours) (Diagnostic Radiography), Bachelor of Medical Radiation Science (Honours) (Nuclear Medicine), Bachelor of Medical Radiation Science (Honours) (Radiation Therapy), Bachelor of Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine, Bachelor of Oral Health Therapy, Bachelor of Physiotherapy (Honours), and Bachelor of Podiatry.
Students who do not receive a scholarship offer will not be eligible for the scholarship, and neither will internal transfer students who are currently studying at an Australian or online campus but were not previously awarded a scholarship. Moreover, students enrolled in quota-limited programs will not be considered for this scholarship (please refer to the complete terms and conditions for the list of quota-limited programs that are not eligible).
The university reserves the right to decline to award the scholarship.
