Requirement and Eligibility Criteria for the Yale Young African Scholars Programme:
- Be at least 14 years old by application deadline in order to be considered. Please note that a typical YYAS student is between the ages of 15 and 18.
- Be able to participate in a rigorous academic curriculum conducted in English.
- Be a citizen or permanent resident of an African country. Applications will also be accepted from refugees living in an African country.
- Be currently attend school in an African country.
- Be a current 11th grade student (or the international equivalent).
- If you attend school in the Northern Hemisphere, you must be graduating secondary school by latest May/June 2024. If you attend school in the Southern Hemisphere, you must be graduating secondary school by earliest November/December 2023 and no later than November/December 2024.

Application Procedures for the Yale Young African Scholars Programme (How to Apply):
Prospective candidates for the 2024 Yale Young African Scholars Programme should adhere to the following application guidelines. Ensure the attachment of an official transcript of grade reports and a recommendation from the applicant’s teacher.
Application Requirements:
- Completed application form – Accessible online, the form must be completed by the applicant. It includes a 500-word essay, two short responses, and details about extracurricular activities and the current school.
- Official transcript or grade report(s).
- One (1) teacher recommendation – The recommendation is submitted through the Online Recommendation Form, sent to the teacher’s email after the student provides their contact details.
Steps to Apply: Step 1: Review and confirm eligibility for YYAS. Step 2: Examine the required components of the YYAS application. Step 3: Study a PDF of a sample blank application and start preparing answers to application questions. Step 4: Provide contact information for a parent/guardian, teacher, or school official. Review the sample blank application with them and gather necessary information.
Complete the Application: Step 5: Click “APPLY NOW” to initiate your YYAS application. Record your email and password for future access. Complete and submit the application before the deadline. Step 6: Check the “Review” page for any missing components and revisit relevant pages for additional information. Step 7: Once the application is complete, go to the “Review” page, then click “Submit Application” at the bottom. Step 8: Check your inbox for a YYAS confirmation receipt, confirming the successful submission of your application.
