The Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme for 2024/2025: Individuals from around the world are welcome to submit applications for the fully-funded Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme, which covers PhD studies in Hong Kong starting in the upcoming academic term.
Instituted by the Research Grants Council (RGC) of Hong Kong in 2009, the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS) has the objective of enticing the most exceptional and talented global students to engage in their doctoral studies at universities in Hong Kong.
The Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS), established by the Research Grants Council (RGC) in 2009, is designed to attract exceptional global talent for PhD studies at Hong Kong’s universities. This fully-funded initiative aims to bring together the brightest minds worldwide, fostering academic excellence and research innovation. Interested candidates can apply through the participating universities, with enrollment information provided by the institutions themselves. Through HKPFS, Hong Kong continues to promote international collaboration and advance its position as a hub for cutting-edge research and education.

Requirement and Eligibility Criteria for the The Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme:
- Candidates should be an international student seeking to study in Hong Kong (irrespective of their country of origin),
- Applicants should prior work experience and ethnic background, should be eligible to apply.
- Applicants should demonstrate outstanding qualities of academic performance, research ability / potential, communication and interpersonal skills, and leadership abilities.
While candidates’ academic excellence is of primary consideration, the Selection Panels will take into account factors as follows:
- Academic excellence;
- Research ability and potential;
- Communication and interpersonal skills; and
- Leadership abilities.

Benefits for the The Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme:
- The Fellowship provides an annual stipend of HK$331,200 (approximately US$42,460) and a conference and research-related travel allowance of HK$13,800 (approximately US$1,760) per year for each awardee for a period up to three years.
- 300 PhD Fellowships will be awarded in the 2024/25 academic year (Universities in Hong Kong normally start their academic year in September).
- For awardees who need more than three years to complete the PhD degree, additional support may be provided by the chosen universities.

Application Procedures for the The Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (How to Apply):
Prospective and qualified applicants must submit their applications directly to any of the universities mentioned earlier in the list of participating institutions. Details regarding enrollment for the fellowship program will be furnished by the respective universities.
