The World Bank Group (WBG) is providing officials from member countries with the chance to participate in the fully-funded World Bank Global Secondment Program for Young Professionals on Special Assignment Appointments, supported by WBG’s partner.

The program has a specific duration, not exceeding four years, and aims to enhance skills, facilitate knowledge sharing, foster strategic alliances, promote cultural exchange, and contribute to the work of the Bank. The Global Secondment Program (GSP) is frequently utilized as a preliminary step in the recruitment process, particularly for individuals from nationalities of concern.

The Global Secondment Program (GSP) provides an avenue for officials from member countries, regional agencies, development banks, international organizations, academia, or private enterprises to be selected for a Special Assignment within the World Bank Group (WBG). This appointment entails a full-time position for individuals from member countries, regional agencies, development banks, international organizations, academia, or private enterprises, enabling them to gain or apply relevant experience while making contributions to the World Bank Group’s work program.

Requirements and Eligibility Criteria for the The World Bank Global Secondment Program:

  • The participant must be a full-time employee of the releasing organization at the time of appointment and continue to receive their salary and benefits from that company or organization. Interns will not be considered.
  • Organizations nominate at least three individuals with good performance records. Nominees are usually interviewed by the WBG’s hiring unit, with the hiring unit manager making the ultimate selection decision.
  • All appointments will be subject to a security clearance to verify employment, education, credit and criminal history. Participants may not begin the assignment until the security clearance process is completed. If the participant does not meet the World Bank Group’s security clearance standard, the appointment is terminated.
  • Due to the nature of Special Assignment under the GSP, and in accordance with the program’s Conflict of Interest Guidelines, participants may not hold positions that would be deemed managerial or policy making roles.
  • Onetime Special Assignment Appointments are usually one to two years; they can be for six months depending on the criteria of the assignment. The length of the appointment should not exceed four years.

Application Procedures for the The World Bank Global Secondment Program (How to Apply):

The coordination of assignments is handled by the Bank manager of the hosting unit in collaboration with the partner organization. Participants have the option to reach out to Bank managers to inquire about potential assignment opportunities.

In certain instances, the partner organization will provide a list of candidates for interviews regarding the assignment. Alternatively, the partner organization may have already conducted internal interviews and a selection process. In both scenarios, only eligible candidates who meet the position requirements in terms of education, relevant experience, and skills will be selected for the Global Secondment Program (GSP).
